REAL LOVE

I started this note before Valentines day but i ended up not writing it as a result of distractions..by self and others! lol, as i thought of the title of the note, i thought of the song with same title by Mary J Blige..this was her hit song in her debut album in 1992..Waoh..how time flies,..i don old o! lol

In the song, she thought she had found real love but discovered it was a search in futility...

So what is this Real love that everyone seem to be in search of...as a faithful Mills and Boon, Halequin and all other romantic novel reader in my teenage age..real love by the authors used to be this handsome stranger from out of town that comes and jumbles up things and later, the love interest realises, that despite his obnoxious behaviour, she can not get him out of her head and after some time the stranger is transformed to a Knight in shinning armour and they live happily ever after..lol..Good for Mills and Boon but not for the world i live in..it doesn't just work like that..hahahaha

In this days of conditional love, where people are loved for what they do..i.e "I love you when you are good, nice looking and yummishly rich, So what is real love as indeed everyone wants to love and be loved back. How do i experience real love in my relationship; marriage Parent/child, friendship, etc

You experience Real love when someone cares about you, wants the best for you and wants you to be happy with no strings attached, that is, the person loves you for you, with all your flaws and wants you happy, the person is not disappointed when you are not your best but is hopeful that you will be the best of you with time.
You grow when you have real love, you are blessed when you are loved unconditionally and you are set free when you know you are so loved..set free from selfishness, low self esteem etc..real love brings healing to your body , soul and spirit..

So is this real love real? can i experience real love with my spouse, my parents, my friends..? Yes real love can be experienced by all who so desire..In marriage, Husbands are admonished to love their wives even as Christ loves the church, a church with so much flaws but yet, Christ expressed His love by dying for her..This real love of Christ can be replicated in any relationship.

Real love can defined from a biblical perspective from the book of 1 Corinthians 13- 4 - 7 from the Message translation:

If I give everything I own to the poor and even go to the stake to be burned as a martyr, but I don't love, I've gotten nowhere. So, no matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I'm bankrupt without love.

Love never gives up.
Love cares more for others than for self.
Love doesn't want what it doesn't have.
Love doesn't strut,
Doesn't have a swelled head,
Doesn't force itself on others,
Isn't always "me first,"
Doesn't fly off the handle,
Doesn't keep score of the sins of others,
Doesn't revel when others grovel,
Takes pleasure in the flowering of truth,
Puts up with anything,
Trusts God always,
Always looks for the best,
Never looks back,
But keeps going to the end.

Real love can be experienced by all of us, if we allow the author of real love into our hearts and learn from Him the act of loving as expressed in the passage above..

Note - People that have never experienced real love search for love in the wrong places and substitute things like money, sex, food, drugs, power for love. The resultant effect of all this may lead to disappointment, depression, frustration, violence etc and this we can see all around us today..my prayer is that we all experience real love in Jesus name amen.

May God truly help us love ourselves unconditionally and show real love in all our relationships...Now its my turn to sing Real love..i found real love in Christ, someone who loves me back..o real love..Christ you are my real love..lol
